Explore Carna

Carna is located on the Iorras Aithneach peninsula located in south west Connemara. The area holds many natural features including Cnoc Mordáin, a popular hill to climb which offers unique views of all of the mountains of Connemara and South Mayo to the North East, and the many bays, inlets and islands of the Connemara Gaeltacht to the South West. Carna has many fabulous pristine sandy beaches with crystal clear water including; Moyrus, Mweenish, Rusheenamanagh, and the Golden Beach. There is a tidal island called Feenish which can be reached at low tide from Rusheenamanagh at low tide, it is recommended to have a local guide with you for this excursion. There are several beaches sprinkled around the island but perhaps the best is situated at the southern shore – it’s nothing short of idyllic on a fine summer’s day.
